The difference between the 1st Model Airborne Denison Para Smock and the 2nd Model Airborne Denison Para Smock lies mainly in the design details and minor modifications made between the two versions.

  1. 1st Model (1942-1943):

    • Material: The original model was made of a cotton-linen blend, which was sturdy but relatively light.
Design: It had a public zipper in front of the neck and buttons on the sides. The jacket also had a large pocket on the front and smaller pockets on the sleeves.
Color: The 1st model was mostly in a green camouflage color, with a rather simple and rather open camouflage pattern, more basic than later variants.
Hood: It had a rolled up hood that could be tucked inside when not in use.
  2. 2nd Model (1944-1945):

    • Material: The 2nd model was often made of a heavier, more waterproof material, such as a thicker cotton-polyester blend. This was intended to make the product more durable and resistant to different weather conditions.
Design: Additional modifications were made, such as the addition of more pockets, both inside and outside. The pockets were given a more functional layout with Velcro or buttons for more security of contents.
Color and Camouflage: The camouflage became more refined, with a more advanced pattern suitable for the different terrains where the paratroopers had to operate.
Hood and pockets: The hood received a slightly more advanced construction, and the pockets received improved locking mechanisms.

In summary, the main differences between the 1st and 2nd models were the improvements in material, design and functionality. The 2nd model was designed to provide more protection and durability in various conditions, while the 1st model was simpler and lighter, making it more flexible for first-time paratroopers.
