Royal Artillery RA Arm of Service
The Royal Artillery (RA) is one of the oldest regiments in the British Army, with a long and rich history dating back to the early 18th century.
During the Second World War, the RA expanded further and became a core component of British divisions.
The field artillery supported infantry and tank units with direct and indirect fire support.
Anti-aircraft units within the RA played a key role in defending against German air attack, particularly during the Battle of Britain and The Blitz.
The RA also developed expertise in rocketry and advanced explosives.
