During the winter of 1943, the British Army's Reconnaissance Squadrons were organized at the company level, serving under the larger Reconnaissance Regiments attached to Infantry Divisions.
These were distinct from the Corps-level Armoured Car Regiments providing reconnaissance support at that time. The Reconnaissance Regiment's role was to perform light cavalry duties for the Infantry Division, such as intelligence gathering, advance detachments, flank protection, and pursuit operations.
They also took on additional tasks like traffic management and filling gaps in infantry units when reconnaissance needs were limited. Above the Reconnaissance Squadron was the Reconnaissance Regiment, comprising a Regimental Headquarters, a Headquarters Squadron, and three Reconnaissance Squadrons.

The Reconnaissance Corps Cap Badge was worn with these divisions.
